Already labelled a renegade league, the Indonesian Premier League (LPI) that kicked off last month was not designed to just be more efficient and commercially viable. According to the league's general manager Arya Abhiseka, the LPI has a higher calling - to restore the credibility of Indonesian football. Speaking to MediaCorp on the telephone from Jakarta on Friday, he said: "The game has lost credibility. Fans have reacted to what they see as unsatisfactory officiating of games; there are problems with the management of clubs; and there are several occurrences of unpaid wages that have been swept under the carpet of Indonesian football. "Indonesian football needs reform, and that's what we're trying to do with the LPI."
