[ASEANWatch] ASEAN to lay principles for peaceful relations

Bali, Indonesia: ASEAN is set to lay down the principles for peaceful relations in the Asia Pacific during the upcoming East Asia Summit in Bali this week. Speaking to Channel NewsAsia, Indonesia's Foreign Minister said the Summit will work at getting participating countries to be signatories to The Bali Principles. The declaration - if agreed - would persuade Asia Pacific countries - including major powers such as the US, China and Russia - to employ peaceful means in solving disputes in the region. The Southeast Asia regional bloc has also started working on a Code of Conduct for the South China Sea. It took almost a decade for ASEAN and China to finally agree on the guidelines for a Code of Conduct for the South China Sea.
