Taxi healthcare scheme gets govt support: SINGAPORE: Singapore's National Taxi Association (NTA) said it is deli...

SINGAPORE: Singapore's National Taxi Association (NTA) said it is delighted that the government is giving full support to its recently-launched "Drive and Save" (DAS) scheme for taxi drivers. Under the scheme, drivers would make a voluntary contribution of S$15 per month to their Medisave Account (MA) and taxi companies would match this amount by making a voluntary co-contribution to the self-employed person's (SEP) account. In a statement issued Saturday, the NTA said the government's move reaffirms the taxi industry's effort to raise healthcare savings of taxi drivers, who are self-employed. "In addition, the exemption of SEPs from paying tax on these contributions would encourage more taxi drivers to participate in the DAS scheme," it said.
