SINGAPORE: The floods in Thailand may be far away from Singapore but the after effects of supply chain disruptions are starting to trickle down to consumers here. Prices of hard disk drives by some leading brands in Singapore have gone up by at least double over the past month according to retailers surveyed by Channel NewsAsia. For example, a 500 gigabyte hard disk drive by Hitachi, which is now selling for around S$115 dollars, used to go for less than half the price last month. But it is the Singapore companies dependent on industrial production in Thailand that will feel more pain. Floods in Thailand have shut down many factories in industrial parks in the north. While some like Mitsubishi have resumed operations in part this week, it could take months before floodwaters completely recede.
