This is a pro-future, pro-worker, pro-family budget. Three features stood out for me. 1. Strong signal to businesses to up productivity and innovation. I was surprised but pleased to see the Government show it’s resolve by the planned increases in Foreign Worker Levy. Of great significance is Minister Tharman’s statement that the adjustments are not cyclical i.e. don’t expect govt to bring it down when times are bad. In other words, please reduce your over-reliance on cheap labour to fuel growth. Smart businesses will offset the increases labour costs by tapping into the extremely generous grants and incentives for training and investments in productivity. 2. There’splenty to cheer for working families.
