Tully raises Proserpine offer to S$163 million #whitsundays #sugar #qld

CANBERRA - A bidding war for Proserpine Cooperative Sugar Milling Association, Australia's fifth-biggest milling company by production volume, has intensified with Tully Sugar raising its offer to A$125 million (S$163 million) from A$122 million, the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday. The increase comes a day after Singapore-listed Wilmar International's Sucrogen unit said it reached an agreement with the administrator of Proserpine to buy the troubled company for a "headline" price of A$120 million. Mr John King, chief executive of Tully, a unit of China's state-owned COFCO, said the company wants to engage with Proserpine's administrator and has a full refinancing package available to meet the immediate needs of the Proserpine mill, the Journal reported, citing a company statement.
