Bahrain protesters retake square as Libya toll rises

MANAMA - Unrest flared anew in the Arab world Saturday as reports emerged of more than 80 killed in a bloody Libyan crackdown and protesters reseized a main square in Bahrain's capital. As Libyan leader Muammar al-Gaddafi aced an unprecedented challenge to his four-decade rule, anti-government protesters in Bahrain returned to Manama's Pearl Square while police and troops pulled back in an apparent conciliatory move. Amid mounting international pressure on the pro-Western government to negotiate with the Shiite-led opposition, Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad al-Khalifa ordered forces to leave the area and stay away from demonstrators, the BNA state news agency reported.
