Taiwan - Taiwan will host a series of cross-strait talks and visits by high-ranking Chinese officials and businessmen this week, as Taipei and Beijing seek to further strengthen their economic ties. Chen Yunlin, head of China's Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Strait (ARATS), will arrive Wednesday to act as the leader of a delegation of almost 50 Chinese entrepreneurs for a six-day visit focusing mainly on southern Taiwan. Representatives of the cross-strait Economic Cooperation Committee (ECC) will kick off the body's first-ever meeting Tuesday to strengthen the trade pact that Taipei and Beijing signed last year. The ARATS chief, who signed the economic cooperation framework agreement (ECFA) on behalf of Beijing, will not take part in the ECC meeting.
