Guess, a 5-month-old puppy, has found a new owner after a US woman tried to mail it to her son as a birthday present

GUESS, a Minnesota puppy, made headlines when it was saved from a likely deadly trip through the mail. The five-month-old schnauzer-poodle mix was saved from being mailed to Georgia three weeks ago when postal workers heard noises coming from a sealed box and saw it move. On Friday, Guess went home with new owner Terri Ford after a draw at a shelter saw 50 people vying for it. The pup would have been sent by air in an unheated, unpressurised cabin if it had not been rescued - a trip that would have likely killed it. Its former owner Stacey Champion, 39, has been charged with animal cruelty. She was trying to mail Guess to her son as a birthday present. -- AP
