Depression, alcohol abuse and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder are the most common mental disorders in Singapore. -- ST PHOTO: CAROLINE CHIA By Judith Tan Depression, alcohol abuse and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder are the most common mental disorders in Singapore. According to the Singapore Mental Health Study, 12 per cent of people here will have some kind of mental disorder in their lifetime. The illnesses hit at a young age and most sufferers do not seek help. In addition, many who are mentally ill are also physically ill.
