[CNA] Budget pro-growth & prudent, says PM Lee

SINGAPORE: Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has described the Singapore Budget as "pro-growth" and "prudent". On Friday, Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam announced a package of Budget goodies that include growth dividends, cash payouts, tax rebates and top-ups to help households cope with rising costs and strengthen the Singapore society. Mr Lee, who was speaking at a community event on Sunday, also saw the launch of a S$4.2m centre for the elderly at his Ang Mo Kio constituency. About one thousand residents turned up to witness the opening of the new 3G (three generations) centre. 68-year-old George Tan is the chairman of the centre. He said: "There are some children playground equipment. There are also some tables and pavilions where the more elderly ones can be there playing chess.
