Gold & the increasing role of Developing Asia:

Gold demand has continued to rise over 3Q11, with investor demand from Developing Asia a key highlight. Consistent demand from Developing Asia affirms the role of consumer wealth diversification and inflationary hedging that is inspired by economic modernisations. The World Gold Council (WGC) on Thursday night reported 3Q11 gold demand increased 6% year-on-year to 1,053.9 tonnes valued at a record of US$57.7 billion. The report stated that a “strong rise in investment demand drove the growth in overall demand, as investors across the globe sought wealth preservation, portfolio diversification and strong returns”. Investment demand expanded 33% year-on-year making 3Q11 investment demand for gold the third highest quarter on record. Across the triangle of Developing Asia, demand from India, China, Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia accounted for 54.6% of the total demand growth...
