The Chinese government on Saturday said its unprecedented decision to postpone the execution of three Filipinos found guilty of drug smuggling resulted from a serious consideration of a 'friend's request'. The deferment of the executions, originally scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, was a 'special arrangement given by the Chinese side' following the visit to Beijing of the Philippine delegation sent by President Aquino and headed by Vice President Jejomar Binay to make a last-ditch appeal for a reprieve, according to the Chinese embassy in Manila.
