Famed science-fiction and fantasy writer Anne McCaffrey has died

WICKLOW COUNTY - Famed science-fiction and fantasy writer Anne McCaffrey died on Monday at her home after suffering a stroke. She was 85. Random House's science-fiction and fantasy website, Suvudu, reported the news yesterday. Best known for the fantasy series Dragonriders Of Pern, McCaffery authored and coauthored more than 100 books, beginning with Restoree in 1967. Her first Dragonriders Of Pern novel, Dragonflight, is currently being adapted for the cinema by X2 and Watchmen scribe David Hayter. Production for the movie is expected to begin next year. A celebrated writer, McCaffrey is the first woman to win both the Hugo and the Nebula Awards, for Weyr Search in 1968 and Dragonrider in 1969 respectively.
