Abolish ERP on weekends?

SINGAPORE: Motorists and retailers have welcomed the idea of no Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) during weekends. On Tuesday in Parliament, several MPs asked to abolish the traffic tolls around Singapore's central shopping districts. Drivers currently pay S$2 to go through Orchard Road on Saturday evenings. Many welcomed the waiver, saying that it would encourage people to shop in the area. "It's better to take away the charges so that Singaporeans will come here and spend money," said one member of the public. "There are parking problems even with these road charges during the weekend, so might as well take them away," said another. "Without the charges, we can drive into the area to pick up passengers," said a taxi driver. Retailers, too, said they would benefit from the lifting of road charges. Robinsons, for example, has department stores in both Orchard and Marina Centre...
