Libyan airspace closed over Tripoli: VIENNA - THE airspace over the Libyan capital Tripoli was closed

VIENNA - THE airspace over the Libyan capital Tripoli was closed indefinitely on Monday, according to the Austrian Army, which sought to evacuate European nationals from Libya on a military plane. 'The airspace is closed until further notice. It was closed less than an hour ago,' defence ministry spokesman Michael Huber told AFP. A C-130 Hercules military transport aircraft from the Austrian Army was originally scheduled to leave Malta for Libya around 1730 GMT (1.30am S'pore time), but it was delayed because only a handful of European nationals had been able to reach the Tripoli airport. Consequently, 'closing the airspace does not have an impact for the moment on the evacuation,' Mr Huber added.
