THE most senior Malay officer in the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) will leave the military to join the private sector at the end of next month. Brigadier-General (BG) Ishak Ismail (right) relinquished command of the Army's 6th Singapore Division last Friday, the SAF's on-line publication Cyberpioneer reported on Monday. BG Ishak, 48 - who became the SAF's first Malay general when he was promoted to the one-star rank two years ago - will join ST Electronics (e-Services) on April 1 as senior vice-president/general manager, it added. News of his imminent departure fuelled speculation that he could be heading for politics and become a candidate for the People's Action Party candidate in the next general election. But when contacted on Monday, BG Ishak told The Straits Times that he had no plans to enter politics. His promotion in June 2009 marked a milestone in Malays' efforts ...
