NTUC FairPrice appeals for more used textbooks

NTUC FairPrice is aiming to collect 250,000 textbooks for needy students in its annual book donation drive in 2011, up from the 230,000 books received the previous year. However, the supermarket chain has only managed to meet half of its collection target. -- PHOTO: ZAOBAO By Janice Tai Two and a half weeks into NTUC FairPrice's annual book donation drive for this year, the supermarket chain has only managed to meet half of its collection target of 250,000 textbooks. The programme, now known as the FairPrice Share-A-Textbook project, was launched in 1983 and aims to help needy students save on school expenses while encouraging recycling and promoting thrift. FairPrice will be extending the textbooks collection date from Nov 30 to Dec 5 and is urging the public to come forward to donate their used textbooks.
