More funding for Singapore football: AFTER one of the bleakest years in Singapore football, there is finally som...

AFTER one of the bleakest years in Singapore football, there is finally some cheer for the nation's most popular sport. On Tuesday, the Singapore Sports Council (SSC) announced that the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) will get a 50 per cent boost in grants this year - an increase that will take its annual funding beyond $2.5 million. The extra cash will be poured into youth development, as the FAS looks to the future after the senior team's disappointing performances last year. Early elimination from the Asian Games and Asean Championship as well as a heartbreaking exit from the Asian Cup qualifiers led to the disbanding of the national side. Now, with more government funding, the FAS' youth development plans can take off in a big way. 'We're glad that the SSC and the government see value in investing in football's future,' FAS chief Zainudin Nordin told The Strait...
