Zinc oxide, a common chemical used in beauty products such as sunblock and cosmetics, has been identified as the potential culprit. But it is the nano form - where particles are so small they that are absorbed easily into skin cells - that could be harmful. While zinc oxide is incorporated into skincare and cosmetic products in micro and nano form, many products in the market widely use nano-sized particles as they can better penetrate the skin to reach the deeper layers.
