S'pore is not the only 'fine' country: #Japan will fine you 30,000 yen for littering

stumbled upon a sign while in Japan that alerted litterbugs to the fine they could face for their offence. Looks like Singapore is not the only 'fine' country, he says. The sign reads: 'In the Beautification Enforcement Areas you will be fined up to 30,000 yen for littering regardless of your nationality or status'. This roughly translates to about S$462.50. Similarly, for litterbugs in Singapore, you could face up to a S$1,000 fine if you are a first-time offender, or up to S$2,000 or even S$5,000 if you are a second or third-time offender. Said john in his email (Feb 23): "Singapore is not the only fine country. "This was taken outside the Kyoto train station. "I thought I was in Singapore, except that they were more specific about the fine."
