Travel agents go ahead with tours to Middle East

SINGAPORE : Travel agents in Singapore have decided to go ahead with tour packages to the Middle East, including mini pilgrimages to the holy land in Saudi Arabia, in spite of the ongoing civil unrest in the region. But some tour packages to Egypt have been cancelled. Some 600 Singaporeans who have been issued visas to perform the pilgrimage in Mecca are also facing uncertainties as protests continue to grip parts of the Middle East. However, several tour agencies MediaCorp contacted said their partner agents have declared that it is safe to travel to Jordan, Syria and Egypt. Alternative arrangements have also been planned so travellers will be routed to a safe destination, if skirmishes do occur. And to be extra careful, some travellers have proposed that travel insurance cover political riots. Travellers said that this way, they will be compensated and assured of a fligh...
