HDB property tax to rise, rebate to ease impact

SINGAPORE - Property tax on Housing and Development Board (HDB) flats is set to rise from next year, after annual values (AV) of HDB flats were yesterday revised upwards with effect from January to reflect the increase in their market values. However, the Government will roll out a one-off S$55 rebate to cushion the impact on lower- and middle-income households. This is for flats that are occupied by their owners. The Ministry of Finance and the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) said in a statement yesterday that 94 per cent of all flat owners will receive the rebate. All one- and two-room owner-occupiers of HDB flats will continue to pay zero property tax next year, while those in three-room flats will on average pay roughly the same tax as last year. Owners or four- or five-room flats will pay S$5 to S$29 more for the year. The AV, which is reviewed annually, ...
