Chinese university sets up research centre in Singapore

SINGAPORE: The National Research Foundation (NRF) has approved a proposal for Shanghai Jiao Tong University, one of China's top universities, to set up a research centre in Singapore. Collaborating with the National University of Singapore (NUS), the centre will work on "Energy and Environmental Sustainability Solutions for Megacities". It is part of NRF Campus for Research Excellence And Technological Enterprise (NRF CREATE) programme. Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean said the project is timely given the rapid rate of global urbanisation. Mr Teo, who is also the NRF chairman, said: "It will contribute significantly to Singapore's push to be at the forefront of urban solutions research." The research agenda for the centre was developed by researchers from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in close collaboration with their NUS counterparts. The centre aims to improve energy ...
