HK science park plans S$827m green-tech hub

HONG KONG - Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks, which caters mostly to local technology start-ups and global companies, is investing HK$5 billion (S$827 million) on a green-technology hub as it looks to attract more mainland Chinese companies with global ambitions. Chief executive Anthony Tan said the 22-hectare park, which is nearly 90 per cent occupied and a magnet to mostly international brands wanting China exposure, will add a new complex by the end of 2013 to host companies with a focus on green technology. The 10-year-old centre for product innovation and research, which hosts about 350 companies including United States chemicals firm DuPont, Royal Philips Electronics and TDK, recently added Warren Buffett-backed Chinese carmaker BYD.
