Commuters at Bugis and Boon Lay MRT stations will be able to shop with their smartphones from today

SINGAPORE - Commuters will be able to do some Christmas shopping at two train stations just by using their mobile phones. SMRT launched its first QR code shopping wall today at two stations - Bugis and Boon Lay. This transforms some of the wall spaces at these stations into virtual "shops" where commuters can make instant purchases. What's required is a QR code reader, which is installed in most phones, or widely available for free in the latest mobile platforms. SMRT, which is working with supermarket chain Cold Storage, said commuters can use their mobile phones to order items such as a roast turkey or honey baked ham for their Christmas party. The orders can be delivered to them and the last day for orders is Dec 20. SMRT said it is integrating mobile technology into its train network to allow commuters to slip in a bit of shopping without having to step into a shop. CH...
