Singapore's Jan manufacturing output up 10.5%: SINGAPORE: Singapore's manufacturing output

SINGAPORE: Singapore's manufacturing output increased in January, rising 10.5 per cent year-on-year. This compares with just nine per cent growth in December. Data from the Economic Development Board released on Friday showed that the worst performer was biomedical manufacturing, which was 8.9 per cent lower, mainly due to a contraction in the pharmaceuticals segment. Excluding biomedical manufacturing, output grew 18.9 per cent in January. Precision engineering was the best performer, expanding 41 per cent year-on-year, mainly due to an 86.4 per cent gain in the machinery & systems segment. This segment continued to be driven by strong export demand for semiconductor related equipment and production from new plants. The chemicals cluster's output grew 15.9 per cent year-on-year in January with all segments recording higher output. Electronics output expanded 20.2 per cent...
