Exam 'success' rooted in failure of education - TODAYonline

My daughter, who is in her GCSE year, came home from school the other day and announced that she had got 61 per cent in her latest test. "Relax, Mum," she said, "it was a paper from four years ago and the teacher says the exam has got, like, way easier. We're using a different board now. Plus, if the paper's hard, the examiners will adjust the grade boundaries so I'll probably get an A* anyway." What was this strange new language she was speaking? Shifting grade boundaries? Easier questions? Different board? My daughter may or may not know much about her subjects, but, boy, the kid is a genius at exams. Being good at exams without necessarily being good at, or even interested in, the subjects in question is a relatively recent innovation.
