Tips for pregnant workers:

Apparently, there are still unscrupulous employers in Singapore who are reluctant to comply with the maternity legislation when their employees become pregnant ("Three months pregnant and fired", Feb 24). Some employers may lament that female employees who become pregnant during their probation period, which can range from three to six months, are taking advantage of the maternity laws as they have not yet been confirmed as permanent employees. However, that particular piece of legislation exists in the Employment Act for a reason and was drafted to protect female workers; hence, all employers must adhere to it - regardless whether they think it is fair or not.
