Most of the merchants are moving to a new centre in Kallang Avenue. -- ST PHOTOS: RAJ NADARAJAN By Jessica Lim Merchants at the Victoria Street Wholesale Centre in Bugis are slashing their prices to clear stock ahead of their move-out date in March next year, when their lease with the Singapore Land Authority runs out. The centre's 40 tenants - who sell mainly dried food, Chinese herbs, and paper and plastic products - are making way for the construction of the North-South Expressway. Work on the road will start in 2013 and is expected to be completed by 2020. Mr Mario Chua, 46, chairman of the Victoria Street Wholesale Centre Merchants' Association, said 80 per cent of the merchants are dangling disco...
