Thailand solar plant to power up 70000 homes via @cmswire

BANGKOK - ON AN open plain in Thailand's Lopburi district, workers sweat under the hot summer sun whose very energy will be harnessed by their massive project. Spread over an area the size of around 500 football fields, the Lopburi Solar Project will generate 55 megawatts (MW) of electricity when it begins operating in November this year. It will eventually power up to 70,000 homes. The Thai government's Renewable Energy Development Plan aims for 20 per cent of energy demand to be met from renewable sources by 2020 - up from around 5 per cent now. And the plant being built 180km north of Bangkok is a key element in reaching that goal. Indeed, investment in solar and wind energy projects is surging in Thailand.
