THE Japanese construction company implicated in the Nicoll Highway collapse has clinched its first Land Transport Authority (LTA) civil contract since the 2004 accident. Nishimatsu Construction has been awarded a $211.7 million deal to build tunnels for the MRT's Downtown Line Stage 3 (DTL3), a 21km project linking Singapore's eastern corridor to the Central Business District. The tunnels will be located between Ubi and Kaki Bukit, Tai Seng Facility Building and Bedok Town Park, and Tai Seng Facility Building and Ubi. The project is one of the first two civil jobs to be awarded for DTL3. The other, worth $268.68 million, has been won by another Japanese builder. Sato Kogyo will build the Bedok Town Park station, set to double as a civil defence shelter, and associated tunnels.
