National Servicemen may be deployed to safeguard rail network: Masagos

SINGAPORE - With the opening of 12 more Circle Line train stations in October, the police are reviewing National Service manpower needs to keep the country's rail network safe. Minister of State for Home Affairs and Foreign Affairs, Mr Masagos Zulkifli, said yesterday that more officers were now needed to safeguard Singapore's public transport system. One strategy is to deploy National Servicemen to the frontline where they can be most effective, said Mr Masagos during an employers' visit to the Police Coast Guard headquarters with Minister of State for Defence and Education, Mr Lawrence Wong. Both men had a dialogue session with some 120 employers and members of the Advisory Council on Community Relations in Defence (ACCORD) on the issue of National Service. Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Mr Wong said employers were supportive and understood the need for defence....
