(CNA|sg) British High Commissioner explains UK's eurozone stance

SINGAPORE: In a rare move, the UK government has deployed diplomats in Asia to publicly explain that Britain has not ostracised itself from Europe or the rest of the world. In Singapore, the media was called to the British High Commission in Tanglin Road to hear why Britain refused to support a eurozone deficit control agreement at a summit last week. The split has caused some friction between Britain and other countries, with Britain seen as distancing itself from efforts to save the euro. At the news conference on Wednesday, the High Commissioner to Singapore Antony Phillipson highlighted the strategic partnership between Singapore and the UK, and said he hopes trade relations will remain intact.
