China govt seeks to reach out to citizens via Internet

BEIJING : China is trying to reach out to the Internet generation by opening more avenues for online discussion. But it is also worried about the spread of false information. One suggestion is to regulate Internet users, for better online engagement. People's Daily is the official newspaper of the Communist Party of China. The online version of People's Daily has been trying to bridge the communication gap between party leaders and Chinese citizens. It wants people to talk directly with their government officials, through webchats and message boards. Guan Jianwen, deputy director of the People's Daily Netcentre, said: "(Users) can put (their) opinions, ask for help on problems. Users can put all that on the message board, addressed to officials on all levels, from the provincial to the central government.
