More training for train drivers to improve communication: SMRT

SINGAPORE : SMRT has said there will be more training for train drivers to provide more timely updates to passengers - not just to those on the trains, but even to passengers before they enter the MRT stations. CEO Saw Phaik Hwa said that drivers currently can only communicate information that is told to them by the control centre because the driver is "as blind as the passenger on the train". SMRT also said it plans to implement pre-recorded messages, but cautioned that it could mislead in certain situations. Ms Saw added that more could be done to improve communication with the Operations Control Centre (OCC), including training drivers to make manual announcements and what to say during an emergency.
