Public inquiry to look into MRT disruptions: PM Lee

SINGAPORE - Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said there will be a public inquiry into the recent MRT disruptions, to understand why the incidents happened. He said the evidence will be presented to see how the system can be more robust, fault-tolerant and safe. Mr Lee told reporters on Saturday afternoon that a Committee of Inquiry will be set up, similar to the inquiry into the Nicoll Highway collapse. He said there should be a public inquiry, as the service disruptions were not single or isolated incidents. Mr Lee said the disruptions were "unfortunate" and are taken seriously. He said the agencies can handle it if it's a one-off incident. But the disruption which happened again on Saturday, the authorities have not quite pinned down the problem yet and will have to sort it out.
