IF YOU'RE the kind who disdains the common shoe cabinet and shoe organiser, there are novel ways of storing and even displaying your shoes - by recycling the furnishings you have. An old bookshelf, given a fresh coat of paint, could easily hold plenty of footwear, just as long as they're not platforms or boots. Magazine racks mounted on the wall are another alternative space to tuck your soles into. If you have messy children - or inconsiderate flat mates - who can't be bothered to arrange their shoes, a wicker laundry basket (preferably with a cover) makes for a tasteful container where they can chuck their sneakers or pumps into. And if your office is ever getting rid of its pigeon-hole shelves, do consider how it will make for the most convenient shoe cubby ever. If you manage to lug it home, that is. Serene Lim
