CDCs geared up for downturn aid

SINGAPORE: Singapore's Community Development Councils (CDCs) are battle-ready to help citizens tide over difficulties if another economic downturn hits next year as a result of the economic problems in Europe and US. The CDCs say the experiences they have gained from dealing with cases in the last economic downturn have helped them to further refine their existing programmes or even roll out new ones to deal with current cases. Latest figures released to Channel NewsAsia indicate a nearly 24 per cent rise in ComCare applications between September and November this year, compared to the June-August period. However, the CDCs said the increase is seasonal for now. The CDCs have a range of help schemes to cater to specific needs of Singaporeans.
