Football: Real Madrid appoints local agent, keen to develop local football

SINGAPORE: Nine-time European champion Real Madrid has appointed local company, Centurion Football, to represent its interest in Asia. The tie-up is expected to add some glamour to the local football scene. The Spanish giant is one of the best-known names to local fans who follow the European Cup and La Liga. A pre-season tour here planned in August between the Real Madrid stars and local players is now on hold. That is because the floating platform, the favoured venue of officials of Real Madrid, is booked for National Day Parade rehearsals. Meanwhile, the new 55,000 capacity National Stadium at the Singapore Sports Hub will only be ready in April 2014. Nonetheless, Real Madrid said it is keen to work with the Football Association of Singapore to develop football here.
