A reader asks why there was no review of SMRT management competence despite multiple prior incidences?

While it is understandable that the public is angered by the recent train disruptions, a more important issue than whether SMRT's chief executive officer should resign needs immediate attention. How do we rebuild commuter confidence in the Mass Rapid Transit system? I, for one, refused to take the MRT on Friday after the previous day's disruption, for fear of another breakdown, and paid more than $15 in cab fare to attend a wedding dinner. My fears were confirmed on Saturday, when services were disrupted for seven hours. I imagine that many commuters are also thinking twice about taking the MRT, especially those unfortunate enough to have been trapped in the trains.
