40% of ♀ suffered sexual harassment when taking mass rapid transit in Taiwan - 1.8 million passengers/day

The China Post/Asia News Network Thursday, Dec 22, 2011 Some 40 per cent of females suffered sexual harassments when taking buses or mass rapid transit (MRT) systems, according to findings of a survey released yesterday by the Jing Chuan Child Safety Foundation. At a press conference held yesterday morning, the foundation cited results of a questionnaire survey by the Association Concerning Sexual Violence Against Women as indicating that 40 per cent of the females polled said they were sexually harassed when taking buses or MRT systems. The foundation said that there are over 3,000 buses plying streets in Taipei, with a total of up to 1.8 million passengers per day, making sexual harassments most likely to happen on buses. In order to reduce such undesirable cases, bus drivers can play an important role in helping victims bring satyrs to justice, the foundation said.
