As a whole, are S'porean teenagers courteous?

I WAS disappointed to read Mr Kevin Johns' observations that teenage Singaporean girls do not give up their seats on the MRT ('Train courtesy'; Feb 24). I have seen many teenagers who do readily offer their seats to those who need them more, but naturally, there will be those who neglect to do so. Mr Johns is right that more can be done to encourage the youth to do the right thing, and the Singapore Kindness Movement will continue to work closely with our transport partners to push the message out. We urge parents to shoulder this responsibility as well. Children learn from adults around them, so it is essential parents pass the right values to their children. Teenagers too should be aware that visitors' opinions of Singapore are formed through routine interactions, such as riding public transport. We hope teenagers can rise to the occasion and remember that simple gesture...
