Gambling operator charged with bribing police officers
A gambling operator was charged in court on Friday with giving bribes totalling $209,000 to five police officers and three individuals over a two-and-a-half year period. Chua Chin Hoe faces 66 charges in all, including four under the Common Gaming Houses Act. The 55-year-old is accused of giving bribes of $1,000 to $47,700 to the officers in return for their help in police-related matters. The five who allegedly took money are: Staff Sergeant Tan Chee Kwong alias Steven, $1,000; Staff Sergeant Lim Kay Heng alias David, $3,350; Sergeant Teng Jing King, $7,000; Assistant Superintendent Koh Tian Tiong alias Mark, $47,700; and Staff Sergeant Chong Soon Ping, $5,000. Chua also allegedly bribed groups of three to five officers - in the form of entertainment totalling $1,650 - at a KTV lounge in Eminent Plaza and JD Pub at Golden Mile Complex between 2006 and 2007.
