Oil prices uncertain in 2012

LONDON: It's been a very choppy year for oil prices. Brent crude rose for the first months of 2011 before giving up most of those gains as the eurozone crisis stoked fears of a global economic slowdown. But what's in store for 2012? Being invested in oil looked like a very good decision for the first months of 2011. Brent crude began 2011 trading at a little over US$90 a barrel. As demand picked up and some economies showed promising signs of growth, it jumped to reach over US$125 a barrel around five months into the year. But from May, the price slumped back down towards where it began the year. As the eurozone sovereign debt crisis looked increasingly likely to cause recession in several major economies, fears about demand for oil grew.
