More Singaporeans using smartphones to shop online

SINGAPORE - More Singaporeans are using their smartphones to shop online. Figures from online payment service provider, PayPal show that this year alone, the number of Singaporeans shopping via their mobile phones jumped nine times. To date, mobile transactions worth some S$43 million have changed hands. And it is a trend that is catching on worldwide, given the ease of using a smartphone. Elias Ghanem, managing director of PayPal (Southeast Asia), said: "The mobile payment jump from US$750 million last year to US$3.5 billion, we expect that to close 2011. That is really a significant jump. Mobile commerce is really the way that people are progressing in their spending." Experts though caution against viruses, which can destroy your phone and steal your personal and credit information.
