More precise surgery method for stomach cancer now available in Singapore

SINGAPORE - A more precise surgery method is now available to those suffering from stomach cancer, the fifth most common cancer in Singapore, after Tan Tock Seng Hospital became the first in South-east Asia to perform the robotic gastrectomy procedure. With the new procedure, the surgeon uses a console with a 3D high-definition screen and controls its robotic arms, allowing for freer movement and more precision in removing the portion affected by cancer cells in the abdomen. Madam Loh Ah Mye, 75, who became the first to undergo the procedure, opted for it after doctors found it risky, due to her age, for her to go through the usual keyhole surgery to remove her cancer cells. She said: "I really did recover quite quickly. When I woke up from the operation, yes, I was in pain, but I could get up to walk and also go to the toilet."
