Yesterday, more than 300 of these devices were destroyed by a bulldozer at a scrap-metal site in Kranji, overseen by StarHub's assistant vice-president for pay TV services, Ms Andrea Tay. The illegal set-top boxes were seized by Singapore Customs last year and handed to the telco last month. These gadgets are for decoding StarHub's encrypted broadcast signals, allowing users to view all 100-plus channels without having to pay a monthly subscription in some instances. A basic plan comprising three groups of channels like news, kids and education costs $25.68 per month. StarHub has 538,000 cable TV subscribers. Illega...
