S'poreans in Hat Yai affected by flash floods

SINGAPORE: Some Singaporeans who were in the Thai city Hat Yai to usher in the new year were greeted instead by flood waters that hit the city over the weekend. The Thai newspaper Bangkok Post reported that many tourists from Malaysia and Singapore were left stranded in hotels because they could not use the road to Sadao, at the border with Malaysia. Those who managed to get out before the floods worsened had their journey home delayed as bus operators waited for the water to subside before travelling back to Singapore. Nine buses that ply the Singapore-Hat Yai route are believed to have been affected, disrupting travel for hundred of passengers. One of the passengers said: "We were told the road to Hat Yai was flooded and the water level was about two feet high. There were worries that the afternoon bus back to Singapore would not be able to move. "The bus was supposed to...
