Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) one of the top 3 mental disorders in Singapore #health

Regular schedules for meals, baths and bedtimes are typically part and parcel of a healthy childhood. However, for some children who are overly sensitive to touch and taste, these daily rituals could potentially be an early warning sign of obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) later in their adult years, researchers have found. Professor Reuven Dar of Tel Aviv University's Department of Psychology and his fellow researchers suggest that when children experience heightened levels of sensitivity, they develop ritualistic and obsessive-compulsive behaviours to better cope with their surroundings. In the long term, this could develop into OCD. The study is found in the Journal of Behavior Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry.
